Perusall New "Course Choice" Option

On March 6, 2024, Perusall added a new, optional step to the course setup process called "Student Cost." This new step is part of Perusall’s “Course Choice” option asking instructors to select an access fee between $0 and $30 per student. Perusall has agreed to temporarily pause Course Choice at UCLA until June 14, 2024.

If an instructor is planning to use Perusall for their Spring 2024 course, they might notice a new prompt in the Perusall course setup process titled “Student Cost.” This prompt states, "Your institution has a license pending.” UCLA is actively working with the vendor to resolve this notification. For now, instructors can continue to use Perusall. However, there are some new steps they will need to take in setting up your Perusall course. When they reach the Student Cost prompt in the Perusall course set-up process, click continue to complete their Perusall course setup. Please refer to our KB: Perusall Course Choice for guidance.

In the event we are unable to come to an agreement with the vendor, UCLA will discontinue its support of Perusall.  Instructors might consider using Hypothesis, another social annotation tool supported by the Bruin Learn CoE, with no cost to instructors or students as an alternative to Perusall for their course. Please review our brief comparison guide between these two annotation tools.

Please contact bruinlearn-support@it.ucla.edu or join one of our Office Hour sessions to meet with a support person for additional assistance with Perusall or to learn more about Hypothesis.
